The National Conference on Peer Tutoring in Writing traces its history back to 1984 and a gathering at Brown University, hosted by Tori Haring-Smith. That was followed by a gathering the next year, at Bucknell University, hosted by Molly Wingate. Then, in 1986, after a third gathering at Georgetown University, Haring-Smith sent out a "Proposal to form a Conference on Peer Tutoring in Writing." It was from this document that NCPTW came to establish itself as an organization. For a listing of past conferences, see here.
